Meet Helen

Paralympic Basketball Athlete turned Academy Director & Consultant

Helen Freeman has represented Great Britain at four Paralympic Games (2008, 2012, 2016 & 2020), and has developed into one of the world's foremost playmakers leading multiple tournaments in assists at the Paralympics, World Championships and European Championships.

Helen was the youngest athlete to be selected for the wheelchair basketball team at the Beijing 2008 Games when she earned her call-up, aged only 18 and has gone on to play in four different countries.

Helen now shares what she has learned in sport with organisations to help raise their game whilst also developing the next generation of athletes in her brand new sports academy.

Starting an

Academy for Young Players

Helen's journey to becoming a professional basketball player wasn't easy. The GB women's wheelchair basketball team wasn't funded, so a lot of the time Helen relied on her parents to help her and the local team.

Luckily, the local leisure centre let her use the court for free when they could, but this isn't always possible for everyone with the same struggles which Helen hopes to change with her basketball academy and coaching.
